The Elucidation Project
Working to bring White Supremacy out from the normality of everyday life
About the Project
White supremacy pervades our society, both shaping how we interact with each other and also concealing itself from view. It is like a dense fog that conceals the landscape. Those within the fog can see neither its extent nor the landscape; it is only those who are beyond the fog’s reach who can see its shape, understand its reach. Western society has been so deeply infiltrated by white supremacy that White people in Western society do not even see it. Because it is everywhere White people do not notice it anywhere. The purpose of this project is to gather examples of white supremacy to illustrate its depth and breadth.
White people in Western society readily acknowledge white supremacy in acts of violence and hate. These racist acts are often fueled by white supremacist ideology, but white supremacy extends well beyond them, invading nearly every aspect of our lives. It is this everyday white supremacy that this project seeks to explicate. It is found in common things — in things that may seem unremarkable, banal, boring — and by naming these things, by listing example after example, we will begin to appreciate the landscape that white supremacy has been obscuring from White people for centuries.
How it works
We post examples from you and from your experience. This approach allows you to remain anonymous, and to be more open about your experience. We do not collect your name, or any other identifying information, and we do this on purpose so that you can write freely.
